The National Task Force on Technology and Disability is committed to ensuring access to information on NTFTD website to the widest audience possible.

The accessibility features on the NTFTD website incorporate principles of universal design and web accessibility from

• World Wide Web – Web Accessibility Initiative.
   
• Trace Research and Development Center, University of Wisconsin-Madison.
   
• Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.

These principles not only ensure access for people with disabilities, they improve access for everyone including:

Accessibility Features of This Site:

• The NTFTD website makes extensive use of accessibility features in XHTML 1.0 Transitional.
   
• Each page is laid out using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to effectively separate the style of elements from the actual content.
   
• Common templates are used, meaning that the placement of key information and navigation controls is similar from page to page.
   
• All images are appropriately labeled with alternative text. Complex images that require longer descriptions are tagged with both the LONGDESC attribute and the interim "d-link" to fully describe the images.

Site Usage Tips:

Change the Size of the Type

You can increase or decrease the size of the type on the NTFTD website.

1. In Internet Explorer, go to View and select Text Size to choose the size you prefer.
    
2. In Netscape, go to View and select Increase Font or Decrease Font.
    
3. For America Online, use keyword accessibility, choose Accessibility Help, choose Vision and then click on the link to Members Who Have Low Vision for detailed instructions on changing type sizes.

Adjust Sentence Length

Resize your browser window to increase or decrease the way sentences display on your screen.

Use the Site Without a Mouse

This site can be navigated with or without a mouse, and is compatible with assistive technology.  Website functions, even the highlighting of hyperlinks (when using newer versions of popular Web browsers), does not rely on a mouse alone.

1. Press the Tab key to move from link to link on all pages and throughout the online Comment Form.  Press enter if you want to follow a link.
    
2. At any time, you can jump to the top of a page and to the main navigation bar by entering the Alt and the letter n keys at the same time if you're in Windows.  In Macintosh, enter Ctrl and the letter n keys.  In the Opera browser, enter the Shift , Esc and letter n keys together.
   
   This keyboard shortcut works in the newer versions of Web browsers, and is even better than using the Home key if you're tabbing through links. Try it!
    
3. Use the up, down, left and right arrow keys to scroll the screen.
